Abstract:
A system comprising: a hydrothermal decomposition unit (13) in which a biomass material (11) is hydrothermally decomposed under counter-contact with pressurized hot water (12) so as to allow lignin components and hemicellulose components to migrate into the pressurized hot water, thereby separating the lignin components and the hemicellulose components from the solid matters of the biomass; a cellulose enzyme saccharification unit (17) in which an enzyme is supplied to the solid matters of the biomass and cellulose is enzymatically treated to give a first saccharide solution containing hexoses having been enzymatically saccharified; a first alcohol fermentation unit (18) in which alcohols are produced via fermentation with the use of the first saccharide solution obtained above; a sulfuric acid decomposition unit (33) in which sulfuric acid is supplied to a hot water discharge (30), which is discharged from the hydrothermal decomposition unit as described above and contains the lignin components and the hemicellulose components having migrated thereinto and the hemicellulose components are decomposed by the sulfuric acid to give a second saccharide solution containing pentoses; and a second alcohol fermentation unit (34) in which alcohols are produced via fermentation with the use of the second saccharide (pentose) solution.
