Description:
System for the transfer of electrical current to LED lamps of various shapes in a closed and/or open loop with a magnetic contact socket

Description

Field of the invention

This invention concerns the technical lighting sector and more specifically concerns a lighting system with LED lamps of various shapes resting on a cylindrical support capable of limiting the use of electric wires and excluding the need for a socket.

State of the art

At the present time, most electrical lighting systems are equipped with wires and sockets. In spite of the continuous progress in this type of technologies, various types of lamps, sockets and lamp bases have been produced over the years but almost none of them provide alternatives to the traditional solution. Technical problem: often, to operate and control electric lighting equipment, it is necessary to use electric wires and sockets that limit the use of particular or complex lighting systems such as elliptical types. In addition, for more than a century we have been forced to use sockets with threading and devices of various types that served to ensure the support of the lamp and its conductivity.

Disclosure of the invention

The purpose of this invention is to produce a LED lighting system resting on a cylindrical support capable of limiting the use of electric wires and eliminating the need for a socket.

Another purpose of this invention is to produce a LED lighting system capable of optimizing the amount of light desired by adding or subtracting lamps of various power without having to make electrical connections. Another purpose of this invention is to produce a LED lighting system capable of opening the market to new products of great esthetic and technological innovation.

A further purpose of this invention is to produce a LED lighting system which can use electrical energy to produce light in a rational, intelligent way, thus permitting greater energy savings and rationalization of the use.

Not last, a scope of this invention is to produce a LED lighting system capable of increasing the range, color, shape, size and power of the various lamps that can be used, and to revolutionize the concept of chandeliers and table lamps.

These and other purposes are achieved with this invention, which concerns a lighting system with LED lamps resting on a cylindrical support capable of limiting the use of electric wires and eliminating the need for a socket.

Additional characteristics and advantages of the invention will be clearer from the description of a preferred, but not exclusive, embodiment of the lighting system that is the subject of this patent application, illustrated for informative, but not limiting, purposes in the drawings included here below:

According to a preferred - but not exclusive - embodiment, this invention concerns a lighting system (1) with LED lamps consisting of a hollow cylindrical support (2) in aluminium containing a PCB module (6) equipped with a microprocessor (not shown), programmable by a personal computer, which is supplied by the standard mains for residential use through a normal power source (8) of electrical current from 220V to 12V or 24V. Said module (6) is also connected, by wires, to a number of magnets (7) placed on the outer surface of the cylindrical support (2). A LED lamp (3) provides light when it is placed on said cylindrical support (2) because of the energy it receives on contact with the magnets (7) on the support (2); the magnets (7) are powered by the voltage that the microprocessor receives from the power source (8), optimized and distributed depending on the power necessary, according to the number and power of the lamps (3) used. The conductive band (4) with negative charge and the conductive band (5) with positive charge on the inner perimeter of the lamp (3), receive energy by contact with the magnets (7) placed on the support (2). Said bands (4, 5) are connected to a LED strip (not shown) that lights on contact. The LED lamp (3) in the example shown is circular, but other polygonal or non-polygonal shapes are used in open or closed structure.

The LED is lit by the passage of electrical current, balanced by an electrical polarity rectifier (not shown) housed inside it, from the conductive bands (4, 5) in metallic alloy positioned on the inner perimeter of the lamp (3) in contact with the magnets (7) of the supporting cylinder (2). The magnets (7) are inside a plexiglas“cup” (10) in the cylindrical support (2) in aluminium and connected to the PCB module (6) from which they receive the proper rectified current from the power source (8) optimized by the microprocessor and by the electrical polarity rectifier that makes it possible to rest the lamp (3) on it regardless of the direction.

For a clearer understanding of the invention, we will take as reference a lighting system (1) with circular loop LED lamps resting on a cylindrical support (2). The invention is characterized, specifically, by:

- a power source (8) of current from 220v to 12v or at 24v reflecting the current state of the art, located in the outer part of the cylindrical support (2) and connected to the residential power mains, which supplies the PCB module (6) that will be explained in section 2. a.

- A hollow cylindrical support (2) in aluminium consisting, on the inside, of:

- a PCB module (6) equipped with a microprocessor, programmed by a personal computer, that controls and regulates the flow of current received from the power source (8) to distribute it in a balanced way to the LED lamp (3); every PCB module (6) can control and balance the flow of current for one or more LED lamps (3) simultaneously;

- a milled groove (9) lengthwise across part of the cylindrical support (2) serving to house the plexiglas cup (10);

- a number of magnets (7) in ferrite or neodymium arranged in a row and connected to power wires that lead to the PCB module (6), each magnet is separated by an electrically insulated spacer (11). The number of magnets (7) will vary in relation to the length of the cylindrical support (2) and the number of lamps (3). Said magnets (7) are positioned on a plexiglas cup (10) and receive, through a wire welded on each of them, the“+” (positive) and (negative) electrical charges from the PCB module (6). Finally, the strength of the magnets (7) also enables the structure to hold the lamps (3) firmly in place;

- a plexiglas cup (10) with holes (not shown) on the bottom for the passage of the wires that will be welded to the magnets (7) and capable of housing said magnets (7).

- One or more LED lamps (3) of any polygonal or non-polygonal shape, open or closed, each consisting of:

- a casing (12) in resin and/or semi-transparent plexiglas;

- two bands (4, 5), in conductive metallic alloy, spaced and positioned on the inner perimeter of the lamps (3) that, when placed in contact with the magnets (7), permit the passage of the electrical flow from the cylindrical support (2). Said two bands (4, 5) are connected by wire to a“polarity rectifier” which, in turn, is connected to the LED strip placed on the outer perimeter of the lamp (3) in a closed loop (or also in an open loop). Additionally, the LED lamps (3) are dimmable and can also be switched on or off together, in pairs and/or individually;

- an electrical polarity rectifier that permits the LED lamps to be lit by contact of the bands (4, 5) with the magnets (7) even with different polarities: for example positive“+” and negative or negative and positive“+”. Moreover, the rectifier permits a constant and controlled flow of electrical current on the bands (4, 5) in metallic alloy at 6V max in respect of the standards in force. Only when the bands (4, 5) come into contact with the magnets (7), the rectifier permits passage of 24 v or 12v in the point of contact;

- a strip of LED lights arranged on the outer perimeter of the lamp (3) and connected, by wire, to the bands (4, 5) described in section 3.b. The materials and dimensions of the invention as described above, and illustrated in the enclosed drawings, and claimed hereafter, can be of any kind or type depending on the needs of the case. Moreover, all the details are replaceable with others that are technically equivalent, without thereby exceeding the scope of protection of this patent application.
