Title:
A SYSTEM WHICH AUTOMATICALLY DISABLES OR SWITCHES OFF A CELLPHONE
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO2003028342
Kind Code:
A3
Abstract:
A system for automatically disabling the operation of a mobile phone (CL) when a first condition is present and for switching said mobile telephone off when a second condition is present. The mobile telephone (CL) works in an unrestricted communication mode when neither said first nor said second condition is present, thereby limitating the usage of mobile telephones in accordance with specified restrictions under certain conditions or at distinct locations, e.g. in a restaurant or when driving a car. The first condition is present when a user of said mobile telephone (CL) is driving a vehicle having its ignition (IGN) on or the speed (ENG) of said vehicle exceeds a predetermined speed threshold. When this condition is present the operation of the keyboard is disabled such that neither a call can be originated or received, even ongoing calls are released automatically. The second condition is present in locations where the usage of a telephone is not allowed at all. The mobile telephone (CL) comprises a signal sensing and detection circuit which detects the presence of said first and second conditions which are signalled by a dedicated signal generating unit which is preferably capacitively coupled to said signal sensing and detection circuit.
