Abstract:

A display screen (22) is provided to a control panel (21). An operator presses a LOW THRUST press key (28) to ON, said LOW THRUST press key (28) being one of the keys in a menu function key group (26) displayed on the display screen (22). In this state, the operator turns an operating handle (32) of a manual pulse generator (31), thereby causing pulses to be generated from an encoder (34). A pulse signal is output from the encoder (34) as a command signal. A servomotor (17) is driven according to said command signal, with the result that a tailstock advances. With the tip of a tailstock spindle brought into contact with the center hole of a workpiece, the operator turns the operating handle (32), thereby making fine adjustment of the drive torque of the servomotor. Due to the above, fine adjustment of the thrust of the tailstock spindle is made. Therefore, the tailstock spindle is pressed against the workpiece under low thrust.
