Abstract:

A tapered roller bearing (1) for an automobile and comprising an inner ring (12) having on its outer periphery a tapered raceway surface (12a), an outer ring (13) having on its inner periphery a tapered raceway surface (13a), a plurality of tapered rollers (14) incorporated between the raceway surfaces (12a, 13a), and a retainer (15) for housing these tapered rollers (14), said tapered roller bearing characterized in that the inner ring (12) and the outer ring (13) comprise case-hardened steel, the raceway surfaces (12a, 13a) of the inner ring (12) and the outer ring (13) have a straight generating line shape, the tapered rollers (14) comprise high-carbon chromium bearing steel, the rolling surface (16) of the tapered rollers (14) comprises a straight section (16a) in the center portion thereof in the axial direction, and crowning sections (16b, 16c) running from the straight section (16a) to either end, and the crowning sections (16b, 16c) are formed with logarithmic crowing.
