Abstract:
Provided is a tapered roller bearing that has excellent load bearing performance and for which an outer ring can be manufactured inexpensively. An outer ring (5) is formed by way of press processing of a steel plate. By forming the shape of the axial cross sectional face of a raceway (5a) of the outer ring and the axial cross sectional face of the outer circumferential face (10a) of a tapered section (10) having the raceway (5a) so as to match the convex shape of the axial cross sectional shape of a tapered face (2b) on the inner circumference of a housing (2) when the outer ring (5) is attached to the inner circumferential face (2a) of the housing (2), then, during bearing operation, the shape of the outer ring raceway (5a) is the crowning shape intended by the designer, the surface pressure acting on the outer ring (5) is uniform, and superior load bearing performance is achieved. In addition, the cutting and grinding processes of conventional outer ring manufacturing are unnecessary, and the manufacturing costs of the outer ring (5) can be reduced.
