Abstract:
A tappet of an engine may comprise a tappet head and a tappet rod. The tappet head may contact a cam of the engine. The tappet rod may extend from the tappet head and move up and down while rotating using a rotation force of the cam. The tappet rod may have a groove formed on the outer circumferential surface thereof. The groove formed on the circumferential surface of the tappet rod may reduce the weight of the tappet. Therefore, a spring of a valve train can have a low rigidity given thereto, thus reducing friction of the valve train. Further, the groove plays a role of reducing a contact area between the tappet rod and an inner surface of a tappet groove on a cylinder block, thus reducing friction between the tappet rod and the inner surface of the tappet groove. Consequently, the rotational mobility of the tappet can be enhanced, thereby improving lubricity between the tappet and the cam.
