Abstract:
[Problem] To provide a tapping device and a tapping unit with which device simplification, space saving, and miniaturization are possible, and which enable improved degrees of freedom of tapping and accurate tapping. [Solution] A tapping device 1 that performs tapping on a workpiece W comprises: a spindle unit 2 that includes a rotary shaft 3 (rotating shaft) having a tap T provided at a distal end thereof, and an IPM motor 4 that rotationally drives the rotary shaft 3; and an inverter device (a motor driver) 11 that drives the IPM motor 4. The inverter device 11 is used to: drive the IPM motor 4 by means of sensorless control in which a magnetic pole position of the IPM motor 4 is estimated using saliency of the IPM motor 4; and move the rotary shaft 3 in an axial direction of the rotary shaft 3. The inverter device is configured to generate a rotational position signal on the basis of the magnetic pole position of the IPM motor 4 estimated by the sensorless control.
