Title:
TAPPING SCREW
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2015/098823
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
Upon considering that tapping screws to be screwed into steel materials and resin materials conventionally necessitate tapping screws of different screw-part shapes for each type of destination material, the present invention provides a tapping screw which, while maintaining the same screw-part shape, is capable of achieving sufficient fastening strength to a wide range of destination materials ranging from resin materials to metal materials, and is further capable of preventing loosening. A tapping screw for fastening while forming a female screw in a destination material by plastic deformation, the tapping screw being characterized in that the pressure-side flank surface (31) of the screw thread in at least the engaging section with the destination material is locally provided with a plurality of recesses (9) in the screw-diameter circumferential direction, while the outer diameter of a screw-thread peak section (33) of the screw thread (3) continuously maintains a cylindrical-helix shape.
