On the basis of the horizontal velocity of a target object and a determination result by a straight travel determination unit, a setting unit of this target presence determination device sets a target presence determination region which covers a width in the horizontal direction in the travel direction of the local vehicle. Further, on the basis of the target object presence determination region and the horizontal position of the target object, the presence determination unit determines whether or not it is possible that at least a portion of the target object is present in the travel path of the local vehicle. The setting unit sets the width in the horizontal direction of the target object presence determination region to be larger the greater the horizontal velocity, and, in the case of the straight travel determination unit determining that the local vehicle is not in a straight travel state, sets the width in the horizontal direction of the target object presence to be smaller than in the case of the straight travel determination unit determining that the local vehicle is in a straight travel state.
