A task assistance system comprises: a location detection unit (101) which sets a sensing plane (F) in a first face side of a display means (300) which is capable of displaying a plurality of objects, and which computes either location information of a hand which is located upon the sensing plane (F) or location information of an object which differs from the hand; a region setting unit (102) which sets a plurality of sensing regions (An) upon the sensing plane (F), using either the location information of the hand or the location information of the object which the location detection unit (101) has computed; and a pass-through region determination unit (104) which, after the region setting unit (102) sets the plurality of sensing regions (An), determines, using the location information of the hand which the location detection unit (101) has computed, whether a hand which is extended from the first face side into the display means (300) has passed through one of the plurality of sensing regions (An).
