Abstract:

A telephone relay apparatus (200) receives a connection request from a first telephone terminal (100) to a second telephone terminal (300). The connection request contains the telephone numbers of the first telephone terminal (100) and the second telephone terminal (300). The telephone relay apparatus (200) stores the telephone numbers of a plurality of telephone terminals in association with codec information indicating the types of audio codecs for those telephone terminals. When connecting to the first telephone terminal (100), the telephone relay apparatus (200) reads the codec information corresponding to the telephone number of the second telephone terminal contained in the connection information. Then the telephone relay apparatus (200) transmits the codec information that was read to the first telephone terminal (100). The first telephone terminal (100) uses the audio codec corresponding to the codec information transmitted from the telephone relay apparatus (200) when carrying out call processing.
