Abstract:

In a telescopic shaft for motor vehicle steering, assembled in a steering shaft of a vehicle, a male shaft and a female shaft are non-rotatably and slidably fitted to each other. Spherical bodies (7) are interposed, with an elastic body (9) in between, between at least one set of axial grooves (3, 5) formed in the outer periphery of a male shaft (1) and the inner periphery of the female shaft (2) respectively. A cylindrical body (8) is interposed between at least another set of axial grooves (4, 6) formed in the outer periphery of the male shaft (1) and the inner periphery of the female shaft (2) respectively. The elastic body (9) has a spherical body contact portion (9a), a groove face contact portion (9b) substantially circumferentially spaced from the spherical body contact portion (9a) by a predetermined distance and in contact with a groove face of the axial groove of the male shaft or the female shaft, and a biasing portion (9c) for elastically biasing a transmission member contact portion and the groove face contact portion in a direction where they are separated from each other.
