Provided are a terminal device (100) and a charging control method, said terminal device (100) comprising: a first processor (110) having firmware stored within same, used, when the terminal device (100) is connected to an adapter, for reading a control instruction recorded in the firmware so as to control the adapter to charge the terminal device (100); the first processor (110) has a first communication interface (115) and a second communication interface (117); when the first processor (110) has firmware stored in it, the first communication interface (115) is in a closed state, and the second communication interface (117) maintains an activated state; the first processor (110) is also used, when the first communication interface (115) is in a closed state, for receiving trigger information by means of the second communication interface (117), and activating the first communication interface (115) according to the trigger information and receiving by means of the first communication interface (115) a firmware update file, transmitted by the second processor (120), for the stored firmware; the stored firmware is updated according to the firmware update file, thus the means of charging on the basis of control by the terminal device (100) are made more useful and versatile.
