Abstract:
The purpose of the present invention is to provide a testing method and a biomarker, both of which enable the diagnosis of dementia (particularly Alzheimer-type dementia) in a simple manner, at low cost and safely. The present invention provides a testing method for determining whether or not a blood sample of interest is originated from a mammal having dementia, which comprises the steps of: (A) measuring the quantity of plasmalogen contained in erythrocytes contained in the blood sample; and (B) comparing (i) the quantity of plasmalogen contained in erythrocytes contained in the blood sample with (ii) the quantity of plasmalogen contained in erythrocytes from a normal mammal which is the same species as that of a mammal from which the blood sample is collected.
