Abstract:
Provided are liquid crystal compounds which have large negative permittivity anisotropy and combine a high clearing point and a low viscosity and which further have at least one other characteristic such as heat or light stability, proper refractive index anisotropy, large negative permittivity anisotropy, or excellent compatibility with other liquid crystal compounds. The liquid crystal compounds are represented by general formula (1-1) or (1-2) [wherein R1 and R2 are independently hydrogen, C1-10 alkyl, or C1-9 alkoxy; A1, A2, A3, A4, A5 and A6 are independently 1,4-cyclohexylene or 1,4-phenylene; a, b, c, d, e and f are independently 0 or 1, with the sum of a, b, c, d, e and f being 2; and g, h, i, j, k and l are independently 0 or 1, with the sum of g, h, i, j, k and l being 2].
