Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2010/084465
Kind Code:
A3
Abstract:
The invention relates to a thermal and/or phonic insulant produced from maize glumes and/or bracts. The aim of the invention is to provide a natural, healthy insulant, produced in bulk from agricultural waste, and requiring little energy for the production thereof. To this end, the invention relates to a novel thermal and/or phonic insulant consisting of maize glumes or bracts representing a minimum of 2 wt. or vol. % of the final product, and also comprising, as a supplement to the maize bracts, the bristles or stigmata and/or the fibres extracted from the stem and/or the spathes and/or leaves and/or pith of the stalk and/or any other part of the maize plant, in proportions of between 10 wt. or vol. % and 90 wt. or vol. %. Said insulant has a relative maximum humidity of 13 % or 14 % in relation to the dry weight and consists of elements having a mass density of less than 100 Kg/m3, measured in bulk, to which a component is added, which provides said elements with resistance to rodents and /or insects and/or mould and/or fire. Said insulant is especially used to insulate buildings.
