Abstract:
[Problem] To provide a thermal printer capable of reliably performing burnout inspections of heating elements when printing optical identification codes such as bar codes and of reducing the frequency of burnout inspections when necessary, said thermal printer thus being capable of performing burnout inspections that are suited to the conditions of use. [Solution] The thermal printer (10) is provided with a platen roller (12) for conveying a sheet (1), a thermal head (11) having multiple heating elements for printing print data on the printing region (1a) of the sheet (1) that has been conveyed by the platen roller (12), and a CPU (20) that functions as an inspection unit for inspecting whether or not there any of the heating elements have burned out and as a control unit for controlling the actions of the inspection unit, the thermal printer being characterized in that the CPU (20) is capable of changing the frequency of inspections.
