Abstract:
The present invention provides a thermal radiation light source that enables light having desired peak wavelengths to easily be obtained due to a wider selection of materials than in the past. The thermal radiation light source (10) is provided with a thermo-optical converter having an optical structure wherein a refractive index distribution is formed in a member (11) comprising an intrinsic semiconductor in such a manner as to resonates with light having a shorter wavelength than the wavelength corresponding to the band gap of the intrinsic semiconductor. When heat is supplied to the thermo-optical converter from outside, light having a spectrum in a wavelength band that is shorter than a cutoff wavelength is emitted due to interband absorption in the intrinsic semiconductor, and light of a resonant wavelength (λr) within the abovementioned wavelength band that resonates in the optical structure is selectively intensified, and emitted as thermal radiation light. Since a wide selection of materials is used for the intrinsic semiconductor in the present invention, a thermal radiation light source, which produces light in a narrow band having a desired peak wavelength, can easily be obtained.
