The present invention allows reduction in cost with a simple structure, and prevents leakage of a residual image that is on a used ink ribbon. A thermal transfer printing device according to the present invention is provided with: a supply roll (3) that supplies an ink ribbon (5) during normal rotation; a thermal head (1) that performs printing processing in which a color material is thermally transferred onto a first printing paper sheet, by using the ink ribbon (5) supplied from the supply roll (3); and a recovery roll (4) around which, during the normal rotation, the ink ribbon (5) having undergone the thermal transfer is wound. After the ink ribbon (5) having undergone the thermal transfer is rewound to the supply roll (3) by reverse rotation of the supply roll (3) and the recovery roll (4), the supply roll (3) supplies the ink ribbon having undergone the thermal transfer, and the thermal head (1) thermally transfers a color material onto a second printing paper sheet on the basis of a disordered pattern. Since the disordered pattern is superposed on a residual image on the ink ribbon (5), leakage of the residual image can be prevented.
