Abstract:
A thermally efficient liquid motion lamp 10 maintains the proper temperature of liquids 34, 35 within the lamp 10 to provide desired motion while using a minimal amount of energy. The lamp 10 includes a submerged heater 28a and a second heater 28b in the base of the lamp, and an efficient non-incandescent light source 22 for illuminating liquids 34, 35 in the lamp 10. A sensor 42 measures the temperature of the liquids 34, 35 inside the lamp 10 and a control system 40 controls the heaters 28a, 28b to first heat the lamp to operating temperature using the submerged heater 28a and to maintain the temperature within operating limits at the base of the lamp using the second heater 28b. The non-incandescent light source 22 is preferably an LED and may be multi-color or an Ultra Violet (UV) LED cooperating with UV dyes in the liquids 34, 35, but may be any highly efficient light source. The color and intensity of the LED may be controlled to follow music.
