Abstract:
Provided is a thermally expandable microcapsule with excellent heat resistance and durability. Specifically provided is a thermally expandable microcapsule composed of both a shell that contains a copolymer and a volatile liquid that is enclosed therein as the core material, wherein the copolymer is a copolymer obtained by polymerizing a monomer mixture which comprises (A) at least one monomer selected from the group consisting of nitrile-group-containing methacrylic monomers and amido-containing methacrylic monomers and (B) at least one monomer selected from the group consisting of carboxyl-containing methacrylic monomers and ester-group-containing methacrylic monomers. In the monomer mixture, the total content of the monomers (A) and (B) is 70wt% or more; the (A)/(B) content ratio by weight is 5:5 to 9:1; and the total content of methacrylonitrile and methacrylic acid is 70wt% or less.
