Abstract:
A thickener which contains a vinyl alcohol polymer having a polyoxyalkylene group in the side chain, characterized in that the vinyl alcohol polymer has a viscosity-average polymerization degree (P) of 200 to 5000, a saponification degree of 20 to 99.99 mol% , and an amount (S) of modifier polyoxyalkylene groups of 0.1 to 10 mol%. Thus, a polyvinyl alcohol-based thickener which exhibits high solubility in water or water-containing solvents and which can impart high viscosity and high storage stability is provided.
