Abstract:
The present invention addresses the problem of providing a thickening agent with which excellent light fastness can be achieved. The present invention pertains to a thickening agent comprising water and fibrous cellulose having a fiber width of no more than 8 nm, wherein the thickening agent is in a slurry form or a gel form, and when the thickening agent is filled into a colorless, transparent glass cell having the internal dimensions of 1 cm deep by 4 cm wide by 4.5 cm tall and is irradiated, from the side of the glass cell with the largest area, with ultraviolet light having a wavelength ranging from 300 nm to 400 nm using a xenon lamp such that the irradiance is 180 W/m2 and the UV dose is 500 mJ/m2, the amount of change in the yellowness index of the thickening agent before and after ultraviolet irradiation measured in accordance with JIS K 7373 is no more than 10.
