Abstract:

[Problem] To enable undulations to be represented with a light processing load by using three-dimensional ground surface data. [Solution] Ground surface data representing the three-dimensional shape of a ground surface is stored in a map database. By adding lighting to thththe ground surface data and projecting the same, a two-dimensional image is generated representing shading on the ground surface (middle image in fig. 1), and the foregoing is stored in map data as a ground surface texture. When a map is displayed, the ground surface texture is pasted onto the ground surface data to carry out perspective projection (bottom image in fig. 1). By doing so, it is possible to provide a map that allows ground surface undulation to be perceived using a light processing load, without adding lighting at the time the map is displayed.
