Title:
TITANIUM ALLOY FOR USE IN GOLF-CLUB FACE
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2013/125038
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
The present invention provides a titanium alloy for use in the face of a golf club such as a driver or an iron. Said alloy complies with the limitation on coefficient of restitution, has a high Young's modulus and tensile strength, and excels in hot and cold workability. By mass, this alloy contains 1.0-3.5% aluminum, 0.5-1.4% iron, 0.2-0.5% oxygen, and 0.002-0.030% nitrogen, with the remainder comprising titanium and impurities. The alpha phase is strengthened by the addition of both oxygen and aluminum, and inexpensive iron was chosen as the beta-stabilizing element, resulting in both high strength and a high Young's modulus. The amount of aluminum, which reduces hot workability, is kept low, reducing the rolling load and minimizing scratches and edge cracking during hot rolling.
