Abstract:
A titanium composite material 1 includes an inner layer portion 4 and surface layer portions 2, 3. The surface layer portions 2, 3 are made of a titanium alloy or industrially pure titanium having a chemical composition belonging to any of JIS types 1-4. The inner layer portion 4, in which borides 42 are dispersed in titanium 41, is provided with a portion in which boron is diffused around the borides 42. The inner layer portion 4 has voids proportionally accounting for more than 0% but at most 30% of the area, and the average B content is 0.3-16.0 mass%. The titanium composite material 1 has an excellent workability and excellent neutron beam shielding properties and can be manufactured inexpensively.
