Abstract:
Disclosed is a titanium compound prepared from an optically active ligand represented by the following general formula (1) (wherein R2, R3 and R4 independently represent a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group or the like, and A* represents a hydrocarbon-containing group with three or more carbon atoms having an asymmetric carbon or axial asymmetry), and a reaction mixture of a titanium tetraalkoxide compound and water, or a titanium oxoalkoxide compound. Also disclosed is a method for producing optically active cyanohydrins which is characterized by reacting a carbonyl compound and a cyanating agent in the presence of such a titanium compound.
