Abstract:
Disclosed is a toll collection system for expanding a toll collection area without changing existing toll collection devices. The toll collection system comprises a vehicle-mounted device (50) mounted on a vehicle, toll collection devices placed in toll collection stations within the toll collection area, and a central device that exchanges information with the toll collection devices. The vehicle-mounted device (50) comprises a vehicle-mounted storage device (25) which stores geographical information about an area outside the current toll collection area which has been designated as an expanded toll collection area, a GPS receiver (24) which acquires positional information about the vehicle location, and a control unit (26) which uses the stored geographical data and the position of the vehicle to search for information that the vehicle has entered the toll collection area from the expanded toll collection area and/or information that the vehicle has left the toll collection area and entered the expanded toll collection area, and outputs information about the vehicle entering and leaving said areas to the central device. The central device has a calculation unit which calculates the toll on the basis of the information about the vehicle entering and leaving said areas.
