Abstract:
A hard coating is composed of Ala Crb (BN)c αd N, wherein an amorphous BN or a predetermined bonded BN incorporating at least either a crystalline c-BN or h-BN has been added in a 0.02-0.20 atom ratio to an aluminum rich AlCrN coating with a Cr/Al ratio in the range of 0.25-0.67, thereby achieving superior heat resistance. The amorphous BN, c-BN, and h-BN are all resistant to oxidation at high temperatures, and the presence of any of an amorphous BN, a cBN, or an h-BN can slow the diffusion of oxygen into the coating. Additionally, the c-BN is hard and thus improves wear-resistance, while the h-BN and the amorphous BN have excellent lubricity and thus improve adhesion-resistance.
