This tool exchange device is provided with: a holding member which has a tool exchange arm provided thereto, and which is provided so as to be capable of rotating and capable of advancing and retracting; a rotation mechanism which is provided with a servomotor (25) for rotation, and which rotates the holding member clockwise and anticlockwise around a central axis at a first rotation speed; an advancing/retracting mechanism which is provided with a servomotor (13) for advancing/retracting, and which advances and retracts the holding member in directions along an axial line of a main shaft at a first advancing/retracting speed; a temperature detection unit (61) which directly or indirectly detects the temperature of an element forming the rotation mechanism; a temperature threshold value storage unit (62) in which a temperature threshold value is pre-stored; and a control device (60) which compares the temperature threshold value with the temperature of the rotation mechanism detected by the temperature detection unit (61), and, if the temperature is equal to or higher than the temperature threshold value, maintains the rotation speed of the holding member at the first rotation speed, and, if the temperature is less than the temperature threshold value, sets the rotation speed of the holding member to a second rotation speed slower than the first rotation speed.
