The invention relates to a trackside railway apparatus (2) and to a method for detecting use of at least one trackside component (5) of a railway installation (6). In order to be able to easily detect the use of the trackside component (5), provision is made of a trackside railway apparatus (2) having at least one sensor device (9) which is designed to detect at least one use of at least one trackside component (5) of a railway installation (6). The apparatus (2) also comprises a storage device (10) for storing at least one item of usage information (14) which traces back to the detection of the use and a transmission device (11) which is designed to wirelessly transmit the usage information (14) to at least one receiving device (3) entering a transmission range (16) in a manner which is temporally decoupled from the storage, wherein the apparatus (2) is designed to detect the at least one receiving device (3) entering the transmission range (16).
