Disclosed by the present application are a traffic control method and related device. When a server receives a release message sent by a client, the server querying a window value of a traffic control window of the client and comparing the window value to a preset window threshold; when the window value is equal to the window threshold, refusing to receive the release message; and when the window value is greater than the window threshold, decreasing the window value by a preset value, and processing the release message; when the client needs to send the release message to the server, the client querying the window value of the traffic control window of the client and comparing the window value to the preset window threshold; when the window value is equal to the window threshold, suspending the sending of the release message to the server; when the window value is greater than the window threshold, decreasing the window value by a preset value, and sending the release message to the server. The present application may avoid the problem of a client sending a message too fast when a message is transmitted between the client and the server, thereby causing the server to be unable to process the message sent by the client in time and thus unable to communicate normally.
