Abstract:
Embodiments of the present invention provide a traffic engineering (TE) method for use in a communication network, and a controller. The communication network comprises a controller and a plurality of nodes, the plurality of nodes comprise flexible nodes and inflexible nodes, the flexible nodes are directly connected to the controller, and the inflexible nodes are indirectly connected to the controller. The method comprises: a controller determines at least one sampling node from flexible nodes and a time frequency for traffic sampling; the controller instructs the at least one sampling node to perform traffic sampling according to the time frequency, and receives traffic sampling data of all sampling nodes in each sampling; the controller determines parameter information required by TE according to the traffic sampling data in each sampling and total traffic information of links in the communication network that have link utilizations higher than a first preset value or lower than a second present value; the controller performs TE control according to the parameter information. The embodiments of the present invention can implement TE control under limited sampling.
