The traffic light, which consists of power pack, control block and one or more lamps having case and source of light, differs in having one or more arrow-shaped incased lamps that can provide illumination or flashing of red, yellow and green solid or dashed shaped arrow image.
The given invention represents a device regulating traffic for transportation - traffic light that can be used at crossroads in order to regulate traffic.
A traffic light used at the crossroads, consisting of power pack, control electric block
(which regulates synchronous lighting of different color signals in intersecting or parallel different directions), and several lamps, each of which has case and the light source - is well- known for us. The traffic light has green, yellow and red round lamp signals. These three color signals permit or forbid starting traffic movement and are located on the independently existent different lamps. A multi-signal traffic light can have two additional green arrowed sections located at the level of round green signal.
The disadvantage of the existent traffic lights is that at the time of defining the direction at the crossroad, the attention should be drawn to the fact whether operation of the main green signal is limited by sections or mandatory road signs. Moreover, in condition of poor visibility the turned off section of sectional traffic light is either not seen or not clearly visible that makes orientation at the crossroad difficult for drivers.
Apart from the mentioned above, if the traffic in the direction is permitted, traffic movement priority should be defined according to the appropriate articles of the highway regulations so that while turning left or back the driver is obliged to make a way for the vehicle moving straight or turning right from the opposite direction, in case of traffic movement in the direction indicated by the arrow of additional sections, movement priority should be defined by the color of main traffic light round signals lit up together with the section lamp (in case of red and yellow colors - making a way is requires, in case of green - priority). In case of using the existent traffic light for orientation on the crossroads, quick perception of interrelations between main signals, additional sections and mandatory signs of obligatory directions as well as corresponding reaction of a driver is necessary - and this is rather inconvenient. Variations of the permitted directions defined by interdependence of main signals, additional sections and mandatory signs of traffic light - the fact that one signal permitting traffic movement can point out one, two, three and more directions, - represents the substantial disadvantage of the given traffic light and makes traffic at the crossroads even more complicated.
Technical outcome of the invention is elimination of the traffic light deficiencies mentioned above: simplification of traffic at the crossroads and clear identification of the permitted directions.
The gist of the invention is that the new traffic light represents a device aimed at traffic regulation at the road intersection that consists of power pack, control electric pack and one or several lamps having arrow-shaped case and light source. The light source represents a light-emitting diode, liquid-crystal or other type (nowadays the cheapest and the most convenient is light-emitting diode lamp) three-colored optical illumination device that can illuminate or blink red, yellow and green lights in turn with the solid or dashed arrow image.
The number of traffic light arrow-shaped lamp depends on the number of allowed traffic directions at road intersections - each arrow indicates only one direction and is hung in the line of the same direction: therefore, as many directions we are allowed to move on, as many arrows are hung at the road intersections or along the traffic line and the arrow is not installed along any directions if traffic is banned towards it. Crossroads with one, two, thre and more permitted directions may exist. An arrow can be mounted in accordance with the direction of the regulated road in vertical, oblique and horizontal position. Traffic lines can be equipped separately with arrow-shaped lights in necessary numbers and of needed configuration.
One arrow of the traffic light, separately or in group, can express all the functions of multi-signaled traffic light better and more clearly:
a) Permit or prohibit traffic - the arrow is illuminated or flashed with green, yellow or red colors in turn on the same lamp in accordance with the given program instead of existent traffic lights comprising of three separate lamps using the three different colors for the same purpose;
b) Define the direction - each arrow defines clearly and directly only one concrete direction that makes it easier for a driver to pass the intersection and in contrast with the existent traffic light excludes variance and ambiguity of directions;
c) Establish priority of the traffic in the indicated direction - that is not clearly and separately shown by the existent traffic light - with the purpose of establishing road priority, concept of dashed and solid arrows has been specially introduced (image of dashed arrow, is obtained by switching off part of zones on the illuminate lamp). A solid-shaped green arrow means that the driver passing the crossing has priority right compared to the oncoming vehicle, and dashed-shaped green arrow obligates a driver to make way for the oncoming vehicle. The dashed green arrow is a new road sign concept specially offered by us with the purpose of making a way.
Essential sign of the new traffic light is in its universality: it is necessary to produce only one kind of standard arrow-shaped lamp, which can illuminate and flash dashed .and solid-shaped green, yellow and red arrows in turn. The recommended size of the new traffic light is: length - 480-600 mm, width - 80- 100mm, the width of arrowhead - 240-300mm.
In order to get more information, it is possible and preferable to install a three-colored time register digital board or timer at the each arrowhead. The described above arrow or group of arrows mounted at the road intersection is much more informative, simpler for perception and at the same time makes traffic movement at the crossroads easier. The described above traffic light is represented by 6 figures:

The traffic light functions in the following way: operation of the traffic lights at the crossings is carried out according to the appropriate program. According to the program, each arrow-lamp Ίέ provided from the control block by power signal, which illuminates the lamp in constant or flashing regime with green, yellow or red color in turn. The source of the lamp illumination - lighting surface is divided in zones. The image of solid arrow is=provided by illuminating all zones, and the image of dashed arrow is represented by lighting part of these zones and switching off the others. Along each permitted direction at the road intersection one arrow-lamp is mounted and its operation can be spread only towards the direction shown by the arrow: a) the illuminated green solid arrow permits traffic and provides priority of movement; b) the illuminated green dashed arrow allows traffic and obligates a driver to make a way for oncoming vehicle; c) the flashing green solid or dashes arrow allows traffic and provides the traffic participants with the information that the time of its operation expires and prohibitory sign will be switched on soon; d) illuminated yellow arrow - prohibits traffic apart from the cases provided by the law and gives information about changing of the signal; e) flashing yellow arrow permits traffic and provides information about non-regulated crossroad, existence of pedestrian crossing or expected dangers; f) illuminated red arrow as well as flashing red arrow prohibits traffic.
Therefore, the new traffic light thoroughly combines and reflects more clearly the functions of the existent three-color multi-signal traffic light main signals and sections, simplifies traffic codes and regulations and makes their perception easier.
