The train car position detecting device 100A according to the present invention comprises a GPS position guarantee range calculation unit 2 that calculates, taking measurement deviation into account, a GPS position guarantee range that is an estimated range for the end of a train car on the basis of the result of measuring the position of the train car using a GPS signal 101; a tacho-generator position guarantee range calculation unit 4 that calculates, taking measurement deviation into account, a tacho-generator position guarantee range that is an estimated range for the end of a train car on the basis of the result of measuring the position of the train car via a tacho-generator 3 that measures a relative distance since a previous measurement was made; and a position determination unit 7 that sets one of the forward direction of the train and the backward direction of the train to be a first direction and the other to be a second direction and of the end in the GPS position guarantee range in the first direction and the end in the tacho-generator position guarantee range in the first direction, determines the position of the end on the positive side of the second direction to be the position of the end of the train car in the first direction.
