[PROBLEM] To provide a dendrimer having a multidentate phosphine ligand based on a transition metal. The dendrimer is useful as a catalyst and provides the green chemistry required in the field of organic syntheses and in other fields. [MEANS FOR SOLVING PROBLEMS] The transition metal-containing dendrimer has a multidentate phosphine ligand which comprises a dendriform compound represented by the general formula (Chemical formula 1) C₆(-R¹-PR²₂)₆ (wherein R¹'s each independently represents alkylene or arylene each optionally containing a heteroatom or a group comprising a mixture of these; and R²'s each independently represents aryl or alkyl) and a salt or complex of a transition metal and in which the dendriform compound has become a polymer through bonding through the transition metal. This transition metal-containing dendrimer can be produced by a method which comprises reacting an acetylene compound represented by the general formula (Chemical formula 2) PR²₂-R¹-C≡C-R¹-PR²₂ (wherein R¹ and R² are as defined above) with a salt or complex of a transition metal in a liquid phase and recovering an insoluble matter.
