Abstract:
Disclosed are a transmitter and a communication system which improve data transmission rate. An LED element (10) functioning as an emitter is provided with a light emitting unit (130) and multiple modulation units (120). The modulation units (120) each contain a electrode layer (106) for modulation and a moth eye structure layer (150), and a signal input power source (121) is connected to each of these. By applying a voltage to the electrode layers (106) for modulation and an n-side electrode (103), a changing electric field is generated in the material of the moth eye structure layer (105), and the refractive index of said material is changed, modulating the light from the light emitting unit (130). The multiple modulation units (120) modulate the light emitted from the same light emitting unit (130) on the basis of different signals.
