Abstract:

A transparent ceramic which is represented by the general formula I: Ba{(Sn¿u?Zr¿1-u?)¿x?Mg¿y?Ta¿z?}¿v?O¿w?, the general formula II: Ba(Zr¿x?Mg¿y?Ta¿z?)¿v?O¿w?, or the general formula III: Ba{(Sn¿u?Zr¿1-u?)¿x?(Zn¿t?Mg¿1-t?)¿y?Nb¿z?}¿v?O¿w?, and exhibits a refractive index of 1.9 or more and ferroelectricity; and a method for preparing the transparent ceramic which comprises forming a ceramic raw material powder for the transparent ceramic together with a binder, burying the resultant formed product in a ceramic powder having the same composition as that of the above ceramic raw material powder, subjecting the formed product in the ceramic powder to a treatment for removing the binder, and firing the resultant formed product buried in the ceramic powder in an atmosphere having an oxygen concentration higher than that of an atmosphere during the removal of the binder.
