Abstract:
Provided are a transport device and a transport method that can prevent damage to an item being transported. A transport device (10) holds a sheet (14) between a first driving roller (20) and a driven roller (24) and sends the sheet 14 forward by the rotation of the first driving roller (20). The sheet (14) is sent in a direction in which the back face of the sheet is pushed against a guide face (36) and a transport route (30) is then bent toward the sheet front face side by the guide face (36), after which the sheet is transported to a second driving roller (22) while being pressed against the guide face (36). The amount by which the sheet (14) floats above the guide face (36) is monitored by a sensor (38), and transportation is stopped when the amount of floating reaches or exceeds a prescribed amount.
