Title:
TRANSPORTATION METHOD USING BALLOONS OR AIRSHIPS TOGETHER WITH A SHIP
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2004/060741
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
Suggesting a new transportation method using balloons and airships together with the ships. Using airships with the military ships, aircraft carriers or any other military marines forming a new marine system for military usages. Equip the airships used in the new system with jet engines to increase its capabilities and speed. Depending on the size and weight, single, double or multiple airships can be attached to the marine pieces at certain positions using cables and strong metal wires.

AMENDED CLAIMS
1. [Received by the International Bureau on 06 July 2004 (06.07. 04): original claims 27 amended; remaining claim 1 unchanged (4 pages)] More details, technical features and figures regarding the claims 2 to 7. Note that claim no. (1) Remains unchanged. More details and figures are added to claims from (2) to (7) as follows : I) Claims (2) Developing the currently used ships of all sizes and types whether for passenger or cargo transportation to work according to the by adding connecting and lifting points on the ships' (boats') board. These points are connected with the main ships' bulkheads and through which the balloons or airships can be connected with ship together with strong cables or wires. As shown in figure (1) special steel frame can be added to the airship to facilitate its connection with different types of boats or ships and to make a good distribution of the load under the airship. As shown in figure (5) Claims (3) protect the rights of operation to all types of balloons and airship connected with the small or big ships in all seas, canals or oceans. Also, in the water passages and shallow waters. It means to protect the rights of the new system every where on the earth. In the new system, the airship can be equipped with a jet engine or more than one jet engine as shown in figure (4) or another type of jet engines such as turbo shaft jet engine as shown in figure (2) or turbo prob. Jet engine Figure (3) depending on the needs and usage of the ships of the newly suggested system.
2. Claim no (4) Using the suggested system in the military applications. In the newly system, the airship can be connected with different military marine pieces. Developing the existing types of battleships, and carriers or other military marine pieces to be connected with balloons or airship. Also, can be equipped with different types of jet engine. IV) Claim no. (5) Using all types of balloons and airship in the suggested system (Balloons, Pressure airships, Semirigid airship, rigid airship and Tethered airships). V) Claim no. (6) using all kinds of jet engines in this system and join these types of engines with the airship and or with the ships to increase their speed, power and efficiency of the system. At same point of very early in ship or system (design) process, a specific decision must be made on the choice of the power plant (Engine) VI) Claim no. (7) All types of flexible connections or rigid connections (Wire, Cables, rods.... metallic or non metallic) between the balloon (or ships) and the ships using any other method of connection between balloons or airships with the ships depending on their design and calculations. See figure (1) and figure (6).
Description:
Complete Description of the Invention The prior Art Marine transportation is one of the cheapest ways known for traveling and freight.

The Problem a-Dangers of sinking, stranding and beaching. b-Narrow water passages and canals limit the size and weight of the ships and Maries passing through. Oversized ships and cargos are limited to anchor at certain harbors. c-The duration of the trips are prolonged due to the speed limit of the currently used marines. d-Excessive amounts of insurance charges are currently added to the cost of the trips due to the extended sailing time and expected complications and dangers.

Whafs New ? Using the airships along with the ships and boats in one system will protect them against sinking and stranding, the suggested system wiil also shorten the ships'droughts, decrease the resistance and therefore increase the ships'speed which means saving time and money.

To increase their benefits, jet engines can be used for additional speed and efficiency.

The presentation of such system of transportation in the international market will have its positive effects on the airship industry, marine transportation, jet engines industry, and economy in general.

Consequently the international economy will flourish and enhanced.

Moreover, the new system can be used in tourism and leisure time industry as an attraction in themselves and increase the number of travelers who choose to use marine transportation.

JET SHIPS Figures Description Figure (1) : Detail Drawing of an Airship.

Figure (2): Cross-section of airship-cabin.

Figure (3): New System (Type one ship with one airship or one balloon) Figure (4): New System (Type one ship with two airships or two balloons) Figure (5): New System (Type one ship with three airships or three balloons) Figure (6): Mititary Application of the new system Figure ; (73 : Tourism and Leisure Application of the New System Figure (8): Another Military Application of the New System Figure (9): Passenger Application of the New System Detailed Description a. Using airships and balloons along with the ships as a new method of transportation. b. The same system can be applied to military marines or aircrafts carriers.

The new system is based on a balloon or an airship that is attached directly to the military or civilian ship or boat using cables and metal wires. In the cases of sinking, beaching or any other dangers the airship or balloon will lift up the endangered marine and raise its drought to decrease the drag (water resistance) and increase the speed.

The new method shortens the time of the marine trips affecting the profits of the ship industry, shipping, tourism and the international trade positively.

Iile suggested system will also allow oversized and overweight ships to pass through narrow passages as the airship lifts it up shortening their droughts. In these cases the airships or the balloons are to be used temporarily when needed in certain locations, so it can be offered as a rental service. c. Jet engines can be added to the system to increase its efficiency and speed. Because of the high efficiency of the Jet engine compared with the internal combustion engines (diesel and petrol engines), they will increase the speed of the new system and save the marine transportation time and money.

Suspension: The new system can be mono suspended using one airship suspended from specific points at the ship by strong metal and cables. (See the attached drawings) Application a-Apply the suggested system consisting of the airship or balloons attached and suspended suitably using wires and cables to ships and boats. b-Applying the new system to upgrade the ships and boats. c-Prepare airships with different sizes and capabilities near the water passages to be rented to speed the over sized ships to pass through. e-Use the new system in military ships and pieces. f-Use all kinds of airships in this system such as: - Balloons.

- Pressure ail-ships.

- Semi-rigid airship.

- Rigid airship.

- Tethered airship g-All possible means of flexible attachments can be used in this system to join the airship or the balloon (one, two or more) to the ship or the boat from one point or more.
