Abstract:
Provided is a travel assistance device disposed on a travel assistance subject vehicle 11, the travel assistance device comprising: an external information acquisition unit which acquires information external to the vehicle; a communication unit which communicates with a travel assistance management device 15 that provides leading vehicle information; and a travel control unit which uses the external-to-the-vehicle information acquired by the external information acquisition unit and the leading vehicle information acquired from the travel assistance management device to perform following travel control for travelling by following the leading vehicle indicated by the leading vehicle information. The travel assistance management device 15, which manages travel assistance from a location apart from the vehicles, comprises: a communication unit which communicates with the travel assistance subject vehicle 11; and an information processing unit which, in response to a request for leading vehicle information from the travel assistance subject vehicle, selects as the leading vehicle a candidate vehicle 12-1, from among candidate vehicles, which is expected to travel an expected travel route of the travel assistance subject vehicle at the expected travel time of the travel assistance subject vehicle, and notifies the travel assistance subject vehicle of the leading vehicle information indicating the leading vehicle. The present invention makes it possible to automatically and efficiently perform following travel.
