Abstract:
This travel assistance device (100) is provided with: target detection units (21, 22); a collision prediction unit (10(15)); an assistance execution unit (10(16)); speed calculation units (21, 22); a collision prediction time calculation unit (10(17)); and both end detection units (21, 22). The collision prediction unit (15) uses a determination plane defined by a transverse position axis indicating the position of a vehicle in the transverse direction orthogonal to the travel direction of the vehicle, and a prediction time axis indicating a collision prediction time set in the travel direction of the vehicle. More specifically, the collision prediction unit (15) constructs a collision prediction area as an area in the determination plane. Furthermore, the collision prediction unit (15) determines whether at least a portion of the range between both ends of a target is included in the collision prediction area in the determination plane. Moreover, the collision prediction unit (15) predicts a collision with the target on the basis of said determination. The width of the collision prediction area in the direction of the transverse position axis is set on the basis of the width of the vehicle. The transverse position of the collision prediction area is set on the basis of the speed of the target and the collision prediction time.
