A travel assistance device (30) comprises: a recognition unit (32, S402); a travel control unit (40, S408, S416); a sensor determination unit (34, S406); and a control determination unit (36, S400, S404, S412, S414, S418). The sensor determination unit determines whether a periphery detection sensor is operating normally or abnormally. The control determination unit determines, on the basis of the determination results of the sensor determination unit, whether the travel control unit is to control a lane change.
