Abstract:
Provided is a travel distance estimation system for appropriately estimating the travel distance of a vehicle using a communication method for which there are restrictions on communication frequency and wireless transmission data capacity. The system includes a communication terminal device and a server. The server sequentially receives a plurality of pieces of position information that have been wirelessly transmitted all at once from the communication terminal device and records the position information at a storage unit in the order in which the position information was received. The server extracts a prescribed number of candidate routes on the basis of the position information recorded at the storage unit for two consecutive points and estimates the average distance of the extracted candidate routes to be the distance between the two points.
