Abstract:
The present invention makes it possible to precisely calculate a travel orientation. This travel orientation calculation apparatus is provided with: a detection unit for detecting vertical acceleration indicative of acceleration in the vertical direction as well as horizontal acceleration indicative of the direction and magnitude of acceleration in the horizontal plane, with respect to acceleration occurring in association with walking performed by a user; a walking cycle setting unit for setting, as a walking cycle, a period equivalent to two strides by the user, on the basis of a zero-crossing point of the vertical acceleration; an acceleration/deceleration switching phase setting unit for setting an acceleration/deceleration switching phase by which acceleration and deceleration by the user in the direction of travel is switched, on the basis of the phase at which the magnitude of horizontal acceleration is at a minimum within the walking cycle; an acceleration/deceleration section estimation unit for estimating each section divided by every acceleration/deceleration switching phase, as either an acceleration section or deceleration section, in alternation; and a travel orientation determination unit for determining the travel orientation of the user, on the basis of an orientation indicated by the horizontal acceleration for a deceleration section and on the basis of an orientation opposite to the orientation indicated by the horizontal acceleration for an acceleration section.
