Abstract:
A treating agent or surface oxidation inhibitor for the plastic working of steel materials, especially a lubricant for the warm or hot rolling thereof, which contains an organopolysiloxane; a method of warm- or hot-rolling a steel material, characterized by supplying the lubricant to a roll surface and/or a surface of the steel material; and a method of inhibiting oxidation, characterized by supplying the lubricant to a surface of a steel material and/or of an iron-based tool to inhibit the surface of the steel material and/or iron-based tool from oxidizing. When the steel material is rolled with heating at a temperature in the range of 200 to 1,200°C, the lubricant can be supplied to the material throughout the whole length thereof and enables rolling under high pressures. Compared to the case where conventional lubricants are used, this lubricant enables a higher coefficient of friction to be maintained and is excellent in the property of preventing seizing between each roll and the material.
