Title:
TRIGGERING OF OTA PROVISIONING OF SIM APPLICATIONS BY NFC
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2016/009291
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
The application relates to a method for enabling distribution of a security application, such as a SIM, which is installed on one wireless device, such as a smartphone to a plurality of other wireless devices, such as M2M enabled devices belonging to the same user. The known SIM card approach to provisioning may be impractical for M2M devices which often comprise embedded SIMs. It is also known to transfer a SIM application either directly between devices or via a network-based secure vault. The idea underlying the present application is that the OTA concept can be further developed in the M2M world whereby a new security application is associated with an existing security application for subscription and billing purposes. The new security application is still downloaded over-the-air (43) from the server (42) but a short distance communication technology (41) will be used as a trigger such that e.g. a M2M device (2) will tag a smartphone (1) and subsequently, the new security application is downloaded to the M2M device (2) and this application is associated with the existing security application on the smartphone.
