Abstract:
The present invention provides a tunable laser whereby finesse can be enhanced, wherein good filter characteristics are realized. In a tunable laser provided with a filter region having a wavelength selection function with respect to light from a gain region, the filter region is a Sagnac interferometer, and includes two ring resonators (500). The ring resonators have two optical couplers (50, 51) and first and second curved waveguides (56, 57) for connecting the two optical couplers, and are configured so that light from the gain region is inputted to each of the two optical couplers from input/output ports (52, 53), resonance peak light is coupled to bar ports (54, 55) of the input/output ports, and light other than light having the resonance peak wavelength is coupled to cross ports (58, 59) of the input/output ports, and radiation waveguides (510a, 510b) connected to the cross ports of the input/output ports of the two optical couplers have structures (601, 60b) for radiating light other than light having the resonance peak wavelength to the front or back surface of a substrate.
