Title:
TURBO RIM FOR AIRCRAFT WHEELS
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2001/021483
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
An aircraft wheel designed for pre-landing rotation of the wheel (A) by the wind (R). This wheel (A) has an inner turbo (B-1) and outer turbo (B-2) which catch the wind (R) and spin the wheel in the direction of (S-1). This pre-landing rotation provides for better wear on aircraft tires.

Claims:
1. The idea To turn the wheels of the aircraftwhile landingin the direction and speed of the landing aircraft, before the first touch of the wheels on the runway. This is done in order to soften the first touch between the static wheels of the aircraft and the running runway underneath. In this way wear and damage will be lessened to the tyres and the whole landing gear.
2. Application of the above idea, as defined in claim 1, by attaching suitable wind turbo to the aircraft wheel, the wind turbo will be turned by the power of the wind which is in the opposite direction of the landing, and turn the wheel that is attached to, in the direction and speed of the landing aircraft, the wind turbo will be attached to the rim of the wheel.
3. Suitable wind turbo, as defined in claims 12, has different shape and size for different aircrafts. The difference can be seen in different diameters, different number of blades, shape of blades, vertical blades to the axis, horizontal or other different angles.
4. wind collectors, which help the wind turbo, as defined in claim 13, attached to the wheel carrier arm, the lowers are focus and directs the wind to the blades of the wind turbo from the axis and down, the uppers are opposite direction to prevent the wind of the blades from the axis and up.
5. The wind turbo and the wind collectors, as defined in claim 14, are made of material that are used in the aircrafts industry, metal, mixing metal or other material which are not metal, the material has to be strong and light, heat and corrosion resistant. To sum up my claims for my invention I have to emphasize that, the figures of the wind turbo and the wind collector which appear in the description above with the accompanied sketches, are given here just as samples, and not to see them as limiting the possibilities of the invention application. The wind turbo and wind collector will be built with the help of air tunnel for testing and fitting the right wind turbo and wind collector to the different aircraft.
Description:
TURBO RIM FOR AIRCRAFT WHEELS Technical Field My invention relates to aircrafts that land on their wheels, while running along the runway. This is in contrast to aircraft that land vertically-e. g. helicopters.

Background Art The situation today is that aircrafts, from all kind of plans to space shuttles, when coming to land on the runway, their wheels are not in motion, do not turn around the axis.

Therefore when the aircraft is landing-the first touch between the static wheel tyres and the running runway underneath is accompanied by high friction of tyres, which causes smoke and leaves black signs on the runway. As well causing bending backward deformation of the whole landing gear.

This situation causes wear to the tyres and the whole landing gear including all its parts, till the connection to the body of the aircraft.

It is known that, tyres have exploded, and landing gear that collapsed while aircrafts were landing. That is the problem.

Disclosure of Invention I came to the conclusion, there is need and it is possible to reduce wear and damage that caused, as I mentioned above, by softening the first touch between the aircraft wheels and the runway when landing.

The invention that I Suggest consist of 2 elements: 1. The idea 2. The application of the idea.

1. The idea: to turn the wheels of the aircraft-while landing-in the direction and speed of the landing aircraft before the first touch of the wheels on the runway.

2. The application of the idea: by attaching a suitable wind turbo to each one of the aircraft wheels.

The wind turbo will be turned by the power of the wind that is in the opposite direction of landing, and turn the wheel that is attached, in direction and speed of the landing aircraft on the runway.

Today, it's a matter of fact, nothing has been done about the problem that I mention above, and the smoke is keep coming from the tyers of the aircraft on the runway while landing.

The turbo wind, which I suggest above, be attached to the rim of the aircraft wheels, therefore the name of my invention is: TURBO RIM FOR AIRCRAFT WHEELS.

Fig. 1B Cut of the side projection of the wind turbo.

Fig. 2 Perspective of the lower single wind collector E.

Fig. 3 Perspective of the upper single wind collector E-1.

Fig. 5 Perspective of the upper dabble wind collector F.

Fig. 6 Aircraft wheel A. Wind turbo inner side B-1 and Wind Turbo out side B-2, attached to the two sides of the wheel A. Wheel carrier arm D.

Axis of the wheel C. Turn direction of the wheel S-1.

In Fig. 1-6 the wind blow marked R.

Best Mode for Carrying Out the Invention In order to clarify the structure of the wind turbo, I have enclosed in the drawing sheet, front projection B of the wind turbo Fig. l. Side projection, Fig. lA. And a cut of the side projection, Fig. lB.

In Fig. 1. the wind turbo B with blades K will turn in direction S by the wind power R, attached to the rim of the aircraft wheel.

It's possible to attach the wind turbo to one side of the wheel A, or both sides like B-1, and B-2, in Fig. 6. In case of both sides, the angle of the blades on wind turbo B-2 on the one side of the wheel, will be the opposite direction of the blades on wind turbo B-1 on the other side of the wheel, in order to use the both sides of the wind power R to turn the wheel forward S-1, in the direction of landing. Fig. 6.

The wind turbo B-1 that will be attached on the inner side of the wheel, that is on the side of the wheel carrier arm D, should be made of two parts, this will make the assembly and dismantling easier.

The diameter of the wind turbo should not be bigger than the rim it is attached to, in order not to be damaged in case of flat tyre.

In the front of the wheel carrier arm D, in the lower part of it, I will assemble wind collector E, Fig. 2, from the level of the wheel axis C and down (not lower than the rim), for direct and focus the air blow R to the wind turbo blades K, from the level of the wheel axis C and down.

I will assemble another wind collector E-1, Fig. 3, in opposite direction (of wind collector E), from the wheel axis C and up, his opposite shape will prevent the wind blow on the upper part of the wind turbo blades.

In case of aircraft with double wheels, sharing one carrier arm in between, it is possible to assemble double wind collector, from the wheel axis and down G, Fig. 4. From the wheel axis and up F, Fig. 5.

Continue Best Mode for Carrying Out the Invention It's possible to produce the two wind collectors, the upper one and the lower one, as one unit, for the singles or the doubles wind collectors.

The lower wind collectors E, and G, will not be lower than the rim of the wheel, not to be damaged in case of flat tyre.

The purpose of the wind collector is to focus and direct the wind, enabling to make smaller the wind turbo and blades.

Industrial Applicability The wind turbo, the projections and supplements that I submit in the accompanied sketches drawing sheet, came to help to perceptible the invention that I present. But the aircrafts are different. There for the wind turbo devised, for each one of them will be different, for suitable unique details of the aircraft.

Wind turbo will be different size and shape, with different number of blades, with vertical blades to the wheel axis, horizontal or different angles.

The wind turbo and the wind collector will be made of materials that are used in the aircraft industry.

The material can be metal, mixing metal or other material that are not metal. The material has to be strong and light, heat and corrosion resistant.

The wind turbo and wind collector will be attached to the right place, by screws or other ways that are used in the aircraft industry.

It is clear that the aircrafts producer has to be helped by air tunnel, for tasting and fitting the right wind turbo and wind collector to the different aircraft. He can use all the parts that I suggest above or just part of it, to prefer wind turbo on one side of the wheel or both sides, with wind collectors or without them, everything by the need.

The mission is to turn the aircraft wheels, by the wind power, in the direction and speed of the running runway underneath while landing.
